Plano Metropolitan Ballet
A not-for-profit ballet company, the Plano Metropolitan Ballet (PMB) puts on performances in Plano, Texas, every year. Founded in 1987, the PMB is under the artistic direction of Cindi Lawrence Hanson, who has been in the position since 1998. The PMB brings in instructors to give “master” classes, and guest artists provide inspiration to company members.
The goals of the PMB include:
Instilling a love of dance in performers and audience members
Developing dancers to reach their best
Developing the awareness in dancers of how their actions affect others and a sense responsibility for those actions
Reaching underserved members of the population with dance
Showcase community members’ talents in dance and choreography
The PMB features about 50 dancers that are 12 to 18 years old who train at the Gotta Dance studio. The Junior Company features about 40 dancers from the ages of 8 to 12. All performers must audition to be a part of the ballet company and a part of the performance. They practice ballet and pointe through regular classes and have a weekly rehearsal with the PMB.
PMB Pals is an outreach program dedicated to teaching children who experience special needs. The classes are underwritten by our generous donors and provide the PMB company dancers and the PMB Pals the opportunity for one-on-one instruction.
The PMB provides high-quality dance performances at a price that is family friendly. Every year, the company puts on an original fairy tale production. The PMB is also responsible for the Plano Dance Festival. The PMB has performed at places, such as Dance for the Planet, Plano Arts Festival, and the Eisemann Center.
Support for PMB
As a not-for-profit organization, the PMB relies on the generosity of community members and businesses to remain in operation. Donations, both monetary and in-kind, are greatly appreciated. Businesses can earn special recognition for their donations, and there are several levels where benefits of donating go beyond the heart-warming that kindness brings with it. Volunteers are also greatly appreciated. Please contact us to find out what we can do for each other.
